The Department of Neurosurgery in Zagazig University is considered the biggest referral center for neurosurgical cases at the Delta region.
History of Neurosurgery in Zagazig University:
The department was founded in 1974 by Prof. Hassan Gawish under patronage of Prof. Tolba Awida president of Zagazig University and Prof. Talaat Al Ghonimy dean of faculty of medicine. He had a successful career in general surgery; therefore, he chose to continue as a general surgeon and encouraged his resident, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yehia Elhusseiny, to specialize in neurosurgery.
Structure of the Department:
The Department includes 4 units. Each unit has one day for Staff Round, two days for Outpatient Clinic, and one day for Operations with Emergency unit which is up 24/7.

– Neurovascular unit.
– Spine complex unit.
– Skullbase unit.
– Pediatric unit.
– Emergency unit.

5 Operation rooms for elective and emergency.
